TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE REMAINS IN PLACE BETWEEN HOWICK AND CEDARA FOLLOWING TRUCK CRASH

URGENT:            N3 TOLL ROUTE TRAFFIC UPDATE

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE REMAINS IN PLACE BETWEEN HOWICK AND CEDARA FOLLOWING TRUCK CRASH

DATE:                  FRIDAY, 17 JANUARY 2020 @ 11H30

Southbound lanes (towards Durban) remain closed following an earlier truck crash

The N3 Toll Route between Howick and Cedara is temporarily closed following a head-on collision between two trucks in the early hours of this morning.  A truck travelling on the northbound section of the highway veered off the road and across the median where it crashed into a truck travelling in the opposite direction (southbound). Both trucks caught alight.

The fire has been extinguished and recovery of the wreckages are complete, but a major clean-up operation is still underway.

Traffic is currently being diverted via R103 at the Howick South/Underberg interchange. “The incident, and the subsequent emergency closure, are causing a heavy back up of traffic on both the N3 Toll Route and the R103. Road users are warned to continue to expect traffic delays while the mop up operation is underway, and are encouraged to delay their journeys if at all possible,” says Con Roux, commercial manager of N3 Toll Concession, the company managing the N3 Toll Route between Cedara and Heidelberg.

N3 traffic information and status updates are available via N3TC’s 24-hour helpline: 0800 63 4357 or by following updates on Twitter: @N3Route.
