N3 Toll Route | Traffic Alert | Adverse weather affects N3 road users this afternoon | 13:50, Monday, 10 August — Icy conditions and poor weather are affecting parts of the N3 Toll Route this afternoon, while return traffic volumes are building in a northbound direction towards Gauteng after the Women’s Day long weekend.

Light snowfall has been reported along sections of the route throughout the day thus far. Affected areas include: between Balgowan and Nottingham Road, and between Van Reenen and Harrismith.

In addtiona, Rain is being reported between Estcourt and Tugela Toll Plaza, along sections of Van Reenen Pass and the area extending towards Harrismith.

Mist around Van Reenen town is reducing visibility and slowing traffic.

Busy traffic conditions are being experienced in a northbound direction, with nearly 1 200 vehicles recorded in the past hour heading towards Gauteng at the Mooi Toll Plaza.

The combination of busy traffic, icy conditions, rain, snowfall and poor visibility places additional strain on drivers.

Motorists are urged to exercise the utmost caution:

– Reduce speed and drive according to the prevailing conditions.

– Increase following distances and allow more time to react.

– Keep headlights on, especially in mist, rain and when visibility is poor.

– Avoid sudden braking or lane changes, particularly on wet or icy surfaces.

– Remain alert to changing road and weather conditions.

– Carefully follow all traffic management and safety measures implemented along the route.

“Plan ahead, stay informed and give yourself extra time. Your safe arrival is the priority,” stresses Thania Dhoogra, chief operating officer of N3 Toll Route.
