The entire northbound carriageway (towards Johannesburg) is currently CLOSED to traffic following a serious crash involving two vehicles, one of which is a fuel tanker, at N3-5 Km 46.0N, just north of the Frere Interchange, between Estcourt and the Tugela River.

Road users are urged to approach the area with extreme caution and to strictly follow all safety instructions issued by officials from the road incident management systems (RIMS), who are attending to the scene.

The severity of the crash and the risks associated with the highly flammable cargo, require even more stringent control on scene than usual.

As a result, extensive delays and significant congestion are to be expected in the area. N3TC requests patience and understanding from all road users while the recovery and cleanup operations are carried out.
