N3 Toll Route | Traffic Report | Thursday, 2 April 2026 @ 17h00

Busy traffic conditions are continuing to be reported on the N3 Toll Route, with an increase in volumes experienced in both the south- and northbound directions.
“This pattern has become more typical recently as opposed to the historic trend where southbound traffic volumes (towards KwaZulu-Natal) tended to be higher at the start of the Easter weekend,” says Thania Dhoogra, chief operating officer of N3TC.
In the last hour, 924 vehicles per hour were recorded travelling in a northbound direction (towards Gauteng), at Mooi Plaza, while 1158 vehicles headed south at De Hoek Plaza.
These busy traffic volumes are expected to continue until around 19h00 this evening and commence again from around 04h00 tomorrow (Friday) morning, with busy conditions likely to continue until around 10h00.
“Crash risks are higher when traffic volumes rise, especially when visibility is poor (at night or in the early mornings), when driver fatigue sets in, and motorists lose concentration, or start taking risks. Please do not drop your guard while driving, and remember to stop to rest and get fresh air when you feel tired, or at least at 200km intervals. If possible, it is always best to travel during the daytime,” said Ms Dhoogra.
