Laying the foundations for brighter tomorrows

Route Update 2025 (3)

As South African schools reopen this week, N3TC extends its warmest wishes to all learners, educators and school communities for a successful and rewarding academic year ahead.

The start of a new school year brings fresh opportunities for growth, learning and discovery.

“We salute the dedication of educators who continue to shape young minds, often under challenging circumstances,” says N3TC chief operating officer, Thania Dhoogra.

N3TC also congratulates the matric class of 2025 on reaching this important milestone. Completing Grade 12 is a significant achievement and marks an important step on a lifelong learning journey.

“Whether your results exceeded your expectations or fell short of what you had hoped for, remember that these outcomes alone do not define your potential or your future,” says Ms Dhoogra. “For those whose results did not meet your expectations, do not feel defeated. Education is not a straight line, and success is built through perseverance, resilience and the courage to pick oneself up and try again.”

As author Maya Angelou so powerfully reminds us: ”You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.”

Every setback carries the seeds of growth, new direction and renewed determination. N3TC believes that education is one of the most powerful tools to unlocking opportunity, transforming lives and strengthening communities.

“We recognise that transport corridors such as the N3 Toll Route can be powerful catalysts for socio-economic development and growth,” explains Ms Dhoogra.

“In response to the challenges faced by many rural communities, N3TC has prioritised education as a key lever to address critical skills shortages and to secure the long-term sustainability of the regions we operate in.”

Through its Touching Lives Programme, N3TC supports education across the full learning continuum — from early childhood development through to tertiary education. Interventions include learner-focused initiatives, supplementary academic enrichment programmes, the provision of learning resources, educator support and training, community skills development initiatives, as well as bursaries and scholarships for further and higher education.

A strong emphasis is placed on English literacy, recognising its critical role in learners’ success at senior school, tertiary level and beyond. A further key component of the Touching Lives Programme is N3TC’s bursary support for qualifying students from municipalities along the N3 Toll Route who have demonstrated academic achievement and potential. Bursaries are awarded in priority fields such as engineering, economics, finance, accounting, business management, information technology, and maths and science teaching, with mentorship and support programmes designed to enhance academic success, personal wellbeing, and work readiness.

“Through our Touching Lives Programme, we have seen how education enables the transfer of skills and knowledge and lays the foundations for opportunity and growth in communities for generations to come,” continues Ms Dhoogra. “It underpins South Africa’s economic and social transformation, as it is our most powerful tool to break cycles of poverty and unlock future opportunities.”

With this in mind, N3TC encourages all learners to stay curious, committed and hopeful, and wishes every educator and learner a safe, productive and inspiring academic year ahead.

”The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” – Plutarch
