Tariffs collected are used exclusively to finance the building, upgrading, maintenance and operation of the N3 Toll Route.

Toll roads ensure:

3. What is N3 Toll Concession (RF) Proprietary Limited

A single-purpose private-sector company responsible for the design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance of the section of the N3 that extends from Heidelberg in Gauteng to Cedara near Hilton.

9. What is Automated Electronic Payment?

Automated electronic payment simply means toll fees are collected in an automated manner. It is an internationally recognised method of toll collection, which, aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility in a safe and convenient way at toll plazas.

Tolls are collected electronically when vehicles fitted with Tags pass through toll plazas. Vehicles fitted with Tags, are identified by electronic readers placed in toll plaza lanes.

If the communication is successful, the boom will open and the vehicle may proceed through the toll plaza.

Transactions are automatically deducted from the vehicle owner’s pre-approved and registered SANRAL Account

The toll fees are charged to the account to which the transmitter is linked via the SANRAL central clearing house.

Weather SA has introduced a free and innovative forecast service catering for the KwaZulu-Natal section of the N3 Toll Route from Van Reenen’s Pass to Cedara. The service is updated three times a day.

12. Is N3TC a law-enforcement agency?

No. Responsibility for day-to-day law enforcement lies with the various Road Traffic Inspectorates and municipal authorities along the N3 Toll Route.
